Permeant Partnership for Education and Research in Membrane Nanotechnologies involving:

 

EMS Summer School 2019

 

Our first-year students Nadin Al-Jariry and Dharmjeet Madhav and our second-year student Ignacio Hegoburu were awarded grants from the European Membrane Society (EMS) for attending the EMS Summer School 2019, held from June 23 to 28, 2019 at the University of Edinburgh (Scotland, United Kingdom). The EM3E-4SW team sends its warm thanks to the EMS for this special support and for the opportunity given to the three students to take part in this event focused on "Membranes for a Sustainable Future".


EM3E-4SW, Erasmus Mundus Master in Membrane Engineering for a Sustainable World

The Erasmus Mundus Master in Membrane Engineering for a Sustainable World, EM3E-4SW (earlier EM3E), offers an advanced educational programme related to membrane science and engineering at the interface between material science and chemical engineering and focused on specific applicative fields.

The master was born in 2010. In that year, it was labelled by the European Commission as an Erasmus Mundus Master for the period 2011-2017. In 2016, the European Commission renewed the label under the Erasmus+ programme and confirmed the excellence of the programme.

The master involves 6 High Education Institutions of 5 European countries: University of Twente (Netherlands), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal), Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain), University of Chemistry and Technology Prague (Czech Republic), Université Toulouse 3 Paul Sabatier (Toulouse, France) and Université de Montpellier (France, coordinating organisation). Associated partners are the Università della Calabria (Italy) and the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium).

The pedagogical project of Master comes from the close collaboration between partners through the European Research Network of Excellence NanoMemPro (EU-FP6) started in 2004.

The Université of Toulouse welcomes more than 80 000 students and 10 000 researchers. This is the third university in term of number of students after Paris and Lyon. This is the fourth-ranked region in France in terms of the number of researchers with 3,4 % of the GDP in the region devoted to research and development. All scientific disciplines are represented : 22 % are researchers in medicine biology and agronomy, 18 % are in mathematics and  information and communication sciences and techniques,  20 % are in physics, chemistry, engineering science,  8 % are in earth and universe sciences and finally 32 % are in social sciences.

 

 

The Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL) was founded in 1973, and it is the youngest of Lisbon’s three state Universities. The founding of UNL was a response to an ever-increasing demand for higher education in Portugal. UNL consists of five Faculties, three Institutes and a School which offer a wide variety of courses in all areas of knowledge. It offers 29 graduate courses (1st cycle), 89 masters (2nd cycle) – 3 of which are Erasmus Mundus – and 7 integrated master’s programmes, beside doctoral (3rd cycle) and post-graduate courses. Presently, it has 14200 students, of whom 1400 are enrolled in graduate programs. The Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia (FCT), located in the Campus of Caparica, is today one of the most prestigious schools of Engineering and Science in Portugal. The focus of FCT on academic research is expressed by the increasing impact that FCT publications are obtaining in recognized national and international journals, as well as the number of successful spin-off companies launched in the last 10 years.

 


 

The University of Twente is an entrepreneurial research university. It was founded in 1961 and offers education and research in areas ranging from public policy studies and applied physics to biomedical technology. The UT is the Netherlands' only campus university. The University of Twente currently has over 5200 Bachelor students, 2300 Master students and 800 PhD students. Education (including BSc and MSc) at the UT is organized in courses that are allocated in faculties, such as the Faculty of Science and Technology. All MSc courses are taught in English. Research (including PhD) is organized in multidisciplinary research institutes, such as the IMPACT, MESA+ and BMTI institutes.
